Killarney and District Motor Club holds successful endurance trial information evening
Killarney and District Motor Club hosted a dedicated information evening last Saturday night to promote endurance trials. Approximately 40 people, including prospective competitors and experienced officials, attended the event held at the Faha venue.

Officials were on hand to explain the technical and financial aspects of the sport. Endurance trials are considered a relatively new and affordable branch of motorsport in Ireland. Many participants use the discipline as a stepping stone to develop the practical driving and navigating skills required for stage rallying.

The 2026 calendar features three local events for interested crews. Cork Motor Club will host an event in Cullen on May 24. This will be followed by a Killarney and District Motor Club event on July 11 and 12, with Kerry Motor Club scheduled to hold a trial on September 20.

To compete in an endurance trial, drivers and navigators must hold a valid Motorsport Ireland Clubman Road licence. Drivers are also required to possess a full road traffic driving licence. Those who already hold a Rally National B licence or higher are also eligible to compete.

The licensing process for the Clubman grade is straightforward. Most applicants do not require a medical certificate from a doctor unless they have a specific pre-existing condition or have been involved in a serious accident.

Navigators play a vital role in the sport, and anyone holding a Rally Navigator licence can participate. This specific licence grade does not require a mandatory training course at a rally school and has simplified medical requirements, allowing new participants to enter the sport quickly.

While the discipline is designed to be accessible, all events are run under strict safety and technical regulations. These rules are governed by Appendix 35 of the Motorsport Ireland Yearbook to ensure a high standard of competition.
