Sunday’s Banna Beach Resort Kerry Winter Rally is going to be a special one for John Joe Daly from Listowel.
John Joe is a co-driver to his son John. Now there is nothing very unusual about all of that.
John and John Joe won their class on last year’s Banna Rally driving a Subaru Impreza. They are also a regular 00 Safety Car crew.
But let us take a trip back in time.
Back in 1997 and 1998, John was campaigning a Ford Sierra Sapphire on the Top Part West Coast Rally Championship round with John Joe as the co-driver.
John Joe has not sat in the co-driver’s seat of a Ford Sierra since the Circuit of Munster in 1998.
That will change on Sunday when he will co-drive in a Sierra for the first time in 24 years. However, John Joe did drive John’s current Sierra on the De Ja Vu Tralee event in May.
It is just another random story across all 140 entrants in Sunday’s rally but a special one, nonetheless, for the Daly family. Sunday is sure to evoke memories of those early Sierra days and that is why random news stories are important to share.
