Moloney is New Zealand Rally Challenge champion for 2021

Noel Moloney has been crowned the New Zealand Rally Championships Challenge Cup Champion for 2021.

Moloney and his driver Quentin Palmer were due to contest this weekend’s Rally of the Bay of Plenty but the country has been hit by further COVID-19 related travel restrictions.

The government’s decision to continue restrictions on regional travel in and out of Auckland has forced the Brian Green Property Group New Zealand Rally Championship and Motorsport New Zealand to cancel the final round of the 2021 season in the Bay of Plenty.

“While organisers of the Battery Town Rally Bay of Plenty intend to go ahead with their event, it won’t be part of the national championship as had been planned for 2021.  It is however expected to be part of the NZRC moving forward,” explained championship officials.

As a result the championship has now been declared following July’s Hawkes Bay Rally at which point Moloney and Palmer were leading the Challenge section. They have been official announced as the champions for 2021 by series organisers.
