Craig Breen has retired from the Rally Il Ciocco and Valle del Serchio in Italy

Craig Breen has retired from the Rally Il Ciocco and Valle del Serchio in Italy.

Breen retired from the rally on the event’s fifth stage.

It was a disappointing end for the Irish Hyundai i20 R5 driver who posted two fastest times over the opening loop earlier this morning.

He was leading the rally after SS2 but a spin on the third test of the rally, the middle stage of the loop, cost him 15 seconds.

Such is the competitive nature of the Italian Rally Championship, which Breen is registered for, that time loss dropped to eighth place.

Another fastest time on SS4 meant he recovered to fifth position overall. He was only 11.2 seconds behind rally leader and teammate Thierry Neuville ahead of the fifth and last stage he started.

Kerry Motorsport News can confirm that both crew members are out of the car and are both ok.
