Killarney and District Motor Club member Niall Myers joins Donegal driver Oisin McShane for this week’s Rali da Água in Portugal.
The event marks Myers’ first continental rally and his second competition outside Ireland, following his overseas debut at the Manx National Rally in May.
The pair will tackle the Portuguese tarmac event in a newer-specification Peugeot 208 Rally4. This week they face a schedule of recce and pre-event testing before the ceremonial start on Thursday, September 10, with competitive stages getting underway on Friday.
Supported by Kelly Motorsport, I Heating & Cooling, and the Craig Breen Foundation, the outing gives Myers and McShane the opportunity to measure their pace against international competition on unfamiliar roads.
Speaking ahead of the trip, McShane said:
“I’m really looking forward to getting over to Portugal for the Rali da Água. It’s going to be a completely new challenge for us, with new stages and plenty of learning. The Peugeot 208 Rally4 is a newer version of what I have been using here at home and is a fantastic car. I’m excited to see what we can do with it against the large class of cars that have entered. The aim will be to settle into the rally, build our speed and hopefully come away with a strong result.”
