Vintage Club celebrates massive success at annual racecourse show
The Killarney Valley Classic and Vintage Club celebrated a successful weekend as a massive crowd gathered at the Killarney Racecourse for their annual Classic and Vintage Car Show.
Held under glorious Sunday sunshine, the event offered a spectacular showcase for motoring enthusiasts, featuring everything from vintage cars, jeeps, and trucks to Kevin O’Sullivan’s popular rally car display.
Sponsor Reen’s Rathmore Car Sales brought a large display of new models, while individual pride was on the line with prizes awarded to Anne O’Neill from Mallow for her 1968 Fiat 500 and Jimmy Kelly from Beaufort for his beautifully restored 1967 Riley Elf. ‘
A standout attraction was Eddie Cronin’s rare 1980s AMF Chevvron 2-32 aeroplane—one of only 41 ever built. The day also supported the Irish Guide Dogs benefiting from the proceeds, represented on-site by Paddy Lawlor and a ten-month-old Labrador puppy in training named Umi.
. “We would like to thank everyone that put their pride and joy on display,” Richard O’Donoghie said. “Big thanks to our members who put in the hard work and run the event.”
The show capped off an exceptionally busy few days for the club, whose dedicated members had also volunteered on Friday and Saturday to manage logistics for the Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle. Speaking after the busy weekend, Club Chairman Tom Leslie was full of praise for the collective effort required to execute both major events seamlessly.
“Great weekend for our club,” Tom said. “Big thanks to James Looney and the marshals who gave of their time Friday and Saturday. We are a great help to the Ring of Kerry because we do what’s asked and we do it well. Our car show at the racecourse again was a huge success today in fine weather, big thanks again.”
Tom extended specific praise to the operational teams, including John Courtney’s parking crew, Tim Gleeson’s meet and greet team, Michael Clifford and William Farrell at the HQ tent, and Francis and Dan’s logistics crew.
For those looking to get involved, the Killarney Vintage Club meets every Thursday night to work on various projects on Upper Lewis Road.
