Organisers of the Killarney Classic Tour have issued an updated format for the event taking place on Saturday June 27.
Following a survey of drivers already entered, the scheduled Gala Dinner has been removed from the programme. Entrants indicated a preference for a more relaxed evening, allowing time for drinks and chats in the Chestnut Tree Bar at the Gleneagle Hotel, with the option to eat at their own choice of time in the adjacent restaurant. Consequently, the entry fee has been reduced to €250 to reflect this cost reduction.
Entries remain open until Friday June 12, but the field is strictly capped at a maximum of 60 cars to avoid inconvenience to residents and other road users. Secure overnight car and trailer parking is available for crews arriving on Friday, though Friday attendance is not compulsory.
All participating cars must be parked in the pre-start holding area at the Gleneagle Hotel before 10.15 am on Saturday morning. Sign-on will take place in the Chestnut Tree Bar, where road books will be distributed. Cars will depart the start at one-minute intervals, with the first vehicle away at 11.01 am.
The non-competitive route includes runs in both directions over iconic stages such as Molls Gap, Kilmakillogue, and the Healy Pass. It also features a single run over a version of Cods Head that has not been used since the Circuit of Ireland in the 1970s. The designated lunch stop will be at the Castletownbere Golf Club.
While the tour is entirely non-competitive with no penalties for early or late arrivals, the road book will provide guidance times for specific landmarks to prevent the field from bunching or spreading out too widely. The event is designed to give crews the opportunity to drive classic stages made famous by the Circuit of Ireland and the Rally of the Lakes.
Preference is given to suitably detuned rally cars or replicas, but anyone without one can participate in any road-legal car, subject to space.
