There is always a Kerry connection as local Peugeot dealer gets behind Ireland’s biggest cycle race

Rathmore is gearing up to take center stage for the 2026 Rás Tailteann, as local Peugeot dealer Reens Rathmore throws its support behind the start of stage two on Thursday, May 21st. Ireland’s most prestigious stage race will roll into the heart of Sliabh Luachra, bringing a major economic and sporting boost to the region.

Following the opening leg from Portlaoise to Kilmallock, the peloton will assemble at the Rathmore Community Centre for a ceremonial start. This second stage is set to be one of the most grueling of the entire race, covering 192.7 kilometres and featuring six categorised climbs, including a trek over the Caha Pass, before finishing in Banteer.

The local community and Sliabh Luachra Cycling Club have been central to bringing the event to the town. Race Director Ger Campbell noted that Rathmore provides the perfect backdrop for such a pivotal day of racing, while local organizer Tim Murphy encouraged the public to come out in force to give the riders a signature Rathmore send-off.

Logistics for the morning will see team parking based at Knocknagree GAA Club, with the official flag-drop taking place outside Reens Garage—a fitting location given the dealership’s long-standing connection to the local community.

“It is a great honour for Rathmore to host the stage two start,” said Tim Murphy. “The Rás has a very special place in Irish sport, and it will be fantastic to see the teams and supporters gathering here before they tackle the mountains.”
