Rally fans encouraged to support local charities

Fans visiting Killarney for the upcoming Assess Ireland Rally of the Lakes are being urged to get involved in two major charity initiatives taking place on Friday, May 1.

The afternoon kicks off with a unique fundraiser for the Kerry Mental Health Association. “Kerry’s biggest sing-song” is scheduled for 5.15pm outside Reidy’s Bar on Main Street, where the public will join in a rendition of The Wheels on the Bus. The goal is to raise funds for a new nine-seater vehicle for Leawood House, Killarney, to assist clients with social outings and medical appointments. This event will coincide with a “Wheel-a-thon,” featuring volunteers rolling a bus tyre along Main Street to collect donations.

Later that evening, the focus shifts to inclusivity with the return of the autism-friendly “Quiet Hour” at Parc Fermé in the Lewis Road Car Park. Following its success last year, the Killarney and District Motor Club has designated this time for autistic individuals and their families to experience the rally cars up close in a sensory-friendly environment. During this period, all engines will remain switched off to ensure a calm atmosphere for fans with sensory sensitivities before the main event begins.
