New BYD Sealion 5 arrives at Ahern’s Kerry showrooms
The all-new BYD Sealion 5 has officially arrived in Kerry, making its debut at Ahern’s BYD showroom in Castleisland earlier this week.
The launch marks the eighth model to hit the Irish market from the brand in just three years, as BYD continues its rapid expansion across the country.
The Sealion 5 is a mid-sized family SUV powered by “Super DM” (Dual Mode) hybrid technology. Unlike traditional hybrids, this system prioritises electric power to reduce fuel reliance. When the battery is charged, the vehicle operates as a pure EV; when the charge runs low, it transitions into an ultra-low consumption hybrid.
Kerry drivers can choose between two trimlines: the ‘Comfort’ and the ‘Design’. The Comfort model, priced at €36,990, offers a 62km electric range and a massive combined range of 992km. The range-topping Design model starts at €40,990, featuring a larger battery that provides 85km of pure-electric driving and a total combined range of 1,016km.
Standard features across the range include LED lighting, a rotating 12.8-inch infotainment screen, and Vehicle-to-Load technology, which allows the car to power external electronic devices. The Design trim adds a 360-degree camera, heated seats, and an electric tailgate.
With a 2,712mm wheelbase, the Sealion 5 offers genuine cabin space for five adults, making it a practical option for Kerry families looking to bridge the gap between petrol and full electric power. All models come with an eight-year or 250,000km warranty on the Blade Battery.
