Co-driver Keith McCarthy back in Galway after injury: “Missing Banna was like missing a county final”

Co-driver Keith McCarthy is returning to competition on this weekend’s Galway International Rally – his first event since injuring his shoulder in a crash on last September’s Cork ‘20’.

McCarthy is on co-droving duties for Irish Tarmac Rally Championship sponsor Neil Phelan of Ace Signs.

They are hoping to compete on all seven ITRC rounds this season.

“This is a commitment in itself but we are ready and very much looking forward to the challenge it offers and getting the buzz again!

“The shoulder is very good after the fracture. The biggest pain was recuperating while both Killarney Historics Banna rallies were on, especially Banna…. which was tough. Missing one. In hurling or football terms is like your club is in the county final and missing out through injury! That was the biggest pain!”

The crew conducted their recce for this Saturday and Sunday’s rally last weekend.
