Kerry crews to watch in Wexford (and Tour of Sperrins)

The Wexford Volkswagen Rally on Sunday has plenty of Kerry interest with Alan Ring’s new Subaru Legacy set to be the star of the show.

But there are many more Kerry drivers and co-drivers on the entry list and Kerry Motorsport News presents all of the crews that need to be followed on Sunday – and we even managed to slip in a Tour of the Sperrins preview into this Wexford story too.

Before that, and tucked away on the entry list is Craig Breen – KMS can confirm that the M-Sport Ford World Rally team driver has placed an entry – it remains to be seen if he gets the call off the reserve list – and as of yet the car he will use has not been confirmed. However, we can exclusively confirm that, on this occasion, Paul Nagle will not be alongside him.

The top Kerry seed is London-based co-driver Shane Buckley who starts at four alongside Daniel Cronin. This will be his last time alongside the West Corkman this season as there are other plans in place for the Kerry Winter Rally.

Keith Moriarty, from just over the County Bounds deserves a local mention. He is on co-driving duty for Welshman Steve Wood on a similar Ford Fiesta to Cronin’s.

Paul Barret and number 8, in yet another Fiesta, can claim Kerry heritage, his grandfather was from Ballyduff in the North of the County. Another branch of the Barret family (what a shower), Frank and Darren have another Fiesta at their disposal and start at 40.

Mike Quinn and Tony Healy dusted off the cobwebs in Cork last month as they continue their preparations for the Kerry Winter Rally in a few weeks’ time in their Ford Escort.  They start at 31, one car behind Ring’s Legacy (more can be read about that car here:

Eoin Duffin and Mikie Cleary are at 46 in their Escort and will he hoping for a better run after a broken half-shaft sidelined them in Cork.

Tommy Randles continues his comeback trail, both for himself and the famed 88 LK 1000 Ford Escort and wills tart at 53.

Four cars behind sits Con Lucey and new co-driver Lee Guerin in yet another Ford Escort. Raymond O’Neill starts at 110 in his Blue Oval machine.

Two firemen will give another new car its debut on Sunday. PJ O’Dowd and Denny Greaney will be hoping to set fire to the stages and set a scorching pace in their Talbot Sunbeam.

Mark Murphy is at the wheel of a Class 13 Toyota Starlet.

Apart from Breen, another crew hoping to make it in off the reserve list on before Sunday morning is Cavan’s Peter Wilson and his Kerry co-driver John McCarthy in a Ford Fiesta R5.

The problem is there are three co-drivers from County Kerry who are called John McCarthy (and another Kerry native in Boston). Is this the John sitting beside John Devlin on Saturday’s Tour of the Sperrins or is it one of the other two? John McCarthy is the only Kerry competitor on the Tyrone-based rally… Would the real John McCarthy please stand up?

Kerry Moto Club member John Michel Kennelly, from Abbeyfeale is another on the reserve in his Junior class Honda Civic
