O’Connell moves ever closer to Western Australian Clubman’s rally title
Murish O’ Connell remains on target to for the Western Australian Clubman’s Rally Challenge after finishing second in last Saturday’s Morley Tyres Safari Rally.
The rally, based near Chidlow, used roads previously used in Rally Australia, was the penultimate round of the six-round Dunlop Tyres Motorsport Australia WA Rally Championship
Perth-based O’Connell and his driver Glen Cawood are contesting the series in their Mitsubishi Lancer.
“We had a successful weekend and happy with another podium finish,” O’Connell told Kerry Motorsport News.

“The stages , and nearby service park in meant short liaison sections and were a big hit with competitors and spectators . A loop of three-stages , repeated , and used in previous versions of Rally Australia were definitely a good test .
“There was a lot of standing water on some sections after all the rain , and definitely some carnage out there with a fair few off road excursions throughout the field.
“We had stage wins on Stages five and six , but couldn’t quite match the pace on the next loop.
“The important thing was to keep adding to the championship points and ensure the car was still in good shape for the championship’s final round , the Experts Cup in Collie at the end of the month.”

The Western Australia Car Club Experts Cup is based near Collie and will run on October 30.
