The two motor clubs in County Kerry have benefited from funding made available by Motorsport Ireland and Sport Ireland through the newly established Resilience Fund.
The fund was launched to help clubs offset the effects of COVID-19. A total of €255k was made available to be divided up between all Motorsport Ireland affiliated clubs that applied.
Both Kerry Motor Club and Killarney and District Motor Club received funding under the scheme but the exact figure each club received was not made public.
The purpose of the Club Resilience Fund is to assist with affiliated club losses sustained by events being cancelled due to pandemic restrictions at short notice and to aid the affiliated clubs with their annual fixed costs which occurred during the period March to December 2020.
“This fund will enable our clubs to be in a confident position to undertake organising events in what will be a challenging 2021,” said Mr. John Naylor, President of Motorsport Ireland.
No decisions have been taken on the potential running of motorsport events in Kerry later this year.
