Nagle targets historic fourth West Cork Rally win
Paul Nagle is bidding to become the most-successful co-driver in the history of the West Cork Rally after it was confirmed earlier this week that he and his driver Craig Breen will return to the famous rally to defend their 2019 title.
The Kerry/ Waterford pairing will compete on the March 14/15 Clonakilty-based event with support from the Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing Team in what is likely to be their only Irish Tarmac Championship outing this year.
“So happy to be back on home soil next week at the West Cork rally, joining our Irish Tarmac Championship friends once again,” said Breen. “Paul and I are aiming on improving the already well proven Hyundai i20 R5 on the very specific roads of my home country, and trying to give an even better and faster car to current and potential new customers. Really looking forward to this exciting challenge, and of course, to be back on the best roads in the world.”
Nagle has previously won the rally three times, twice alongside fellow Killarney man Donie O’Sullivan, in 2004 and 2008 and again last year with Breen. He is one of three co-drivers to have one the event three times (Conor Foley 2016-2018 and Jerry Hynes 1995, 1997, 1999 being the other two) but a fourth victory has never been achieved any co-driver since the first rally in 1977.
