Kerry motorcycle racers head to the sun for some pre-season testing

The Irish motorcycle racing season is well over a month away but seven Kerry-based riders are well ahead of their preparations.

Six riders will spend this weekend in the South of Spain where they will take part in an extended pre-season test at the Circuito De Almeria and the Circuito de Velocidad de Cartagena.

Emmet O’Grady will continue with the Dublin-based TAG Honda Team for 2020, the 2018 Irish Masters Champion will compete in the Superbike Pro Class.

Tralee’s Robert O’Connell finished second in last year’s Production Championship and he will step up the exciting Supersport 600 Group this season, while Darragh Crean will make his debut in the Production Twin class.

Dean O’Grady (Ballyduff), Frank Doherty (Killarney) and John Griffin (Moyvane) are the other three Kerry-based riders who will venture to Spain as part of the JOG Tuning organised trip.

They will be joined by Killarney’s Kevin Coyne at the latter venue.

Meanwhile, Ballyduff’s Anthony O’Carroll will launch his 2020 campaign at the No Hopers Motorcycle Club’s 30th annual ‘Down and Out Rally’ on March 7 at Ballyroe Heights Hotel.

The first round of the Irish Motorcycle Racing Championship’s takes place on the weekend of March 28 and 29 at Mondello Park where up to eight Kerry riders could be in action.
