A young Galway driver was quick off the mark on Tuesday of this week when entries for the Circuit of Kerry Rally opened.
Sean Walsh, 19, and his co-driver Aron Connaire, 18, have the honour of being the first crew to place an entry for the April 5 event.
Walsh started rallying last year, as a co-driver, and finished second in Class 12 in the Top Part West Coast Rally Championship alongside fellow Galway man John Coughlan in a Ford Escort Mk2.
He switched to the driver’s seat for last October’s Fastnet Rally and already this year he has contested his home Galway International Rally and the Abbeyleix Manor Rally.
The Circuit of Kerry will be young Galway crew’s fourth rally but they hold third in class after the opening round of this year’s Top Part West Coast Championship.
They drive a self-prepared bright green Honda Civic EK4 that they affectionately call Kermit,
“I hope to do the full West Coast Championship this year, and maybe a few extra events too,” he told Kerry Motor Club.
Walsh and Connaire are supported by Harte Electrical; Kevin Keogh Crane Services; Leonard Steel; McTigue Quarries Tuam; Loughrea Tyre Centre; Mannions Bar Abbeyknockmoy; A1 Auto Parts Tuam and MPW Survey and Design.
