Toyota Ireland celebrates 60 years of the Corolla with 60th Anniversary Irish Edition
Toyota Ireland is marking six decades of global success for the world’s best-selling car with the launch of the exclusive Corolla 60th Anniversary Irish Edition.
First introduced globally in 1966, the Corolla has amassed more than 57 million sales across 12 generations. In Ireland, the model holds a special place in the nation’s motoring history, remaining the best-selling car in its segment with more than 215,000 units sold on Irish soil.
Built for Irish roads
The Irish Corolla story began in 1973, when Toyota opened its assembly facility in Bluebell, Dublin. Local production gave the car an immediate connection with Irish motorists, quickly cementing its place on driveways across the country.
The Corolla’s reputation for reliability and efficiency proved central to Ireland becoming the first market outside Japan where Toyota reached the top of the national sales charts.
That reputation was built on decades of clever, memorable advertising tailored specifically to local drivers. Archive print campaigns famously used Irish language phrasing to highlight the car’s durability and frugal fuel economy:

To commemorate the milestone, the 60th Anniversary Irish Edition brings distinct exterior styling and interior enhancements designed to keep the car looking sharp for years to come.
Exterior additions feature 17-inch alloy wheels, prominent side sills, and an official Corolla 60th Anniversary Edition badge. Inside, the cabin receives bespoke scuff plates and protective textile floor mats.
Advanced hybrid performance and active safety
The latest Corolla line-up relies on fifth-generation Toyota hybrid powertrains, offering quiet, efficient operation across Hatchback, Touring Sports, and Saloon body styles.
Customers choosing the Hatchback or Touring Sports can select between a 1.8-litre system producing 140 DIN hp or a sportier 2.0-litre variant delivering 178 DIN hp. Saloon models are fitted exclusively with the 1.8-litre hybrid engine.
Standard technology across the range includes:
