Rare Bedford CA Dormobile steals the show: Photo special from last week’s Ted’s Opel run
Over seventy classic and retro vehicles gathered under glorious summer skies on Saturday last, for the 19th edition of Ted’s Opel Vauxhall Run, raising funds for Irish Dogs for the Disabled.













Based at Coolcower House near Macroom, County Cork, this year’s run welcomed enthusiasts from across all 32 counties of Ireland as well as overseas participants from the Isle of Man.
Among the standout vehicles on display, a rare Bedford CA Dormobile camper van belonging to Paddy Hanifin from Tralee proved to be one of the day’s main attractions.
Hanifin’s beautifully presented camper van went on to claim the Moriarty’s Central Car Sales Perpetual Cup for Best GM Vehicle.
The event’s highest accolade, the Opel Ireland Award for Best Overall Vehicle of the Run, was awarded to Liam Sweetman from Cork for his rare Lotus Omega.
The Kevin O’Leary Perpetual Cup for Best Opel went to County Louth with Sean Curran and his Opel Tigra, while Alex Foley from lifted the Cartell.ie Perpetual Cup for Best Vauxhall with his Vauxhall Ampera.
In the modified category, Aurian Pickett from Killarney picked up the Rentokil Perpetual Cup for Best Modified Vehicle in his Vauxhall Astra H.
Maureen Sheehan was awarded the Perpetual Shield with her Opel Astra G, and the Jackie Small Memorial Trophy was presented to Millstreet’s Pat Lucey for his Opel Kadett Coupe.
The Spirit of the Run Award was presented to Michael Duggan from the Healy Pass. Driving his Opel Astra, Duggan has supported the charity run by attending 17 of its 19 editions.
Four additional Special Awards were presented to acknowledge standout entries across the paddock. John Keating from Midleton was recognised for his Opel Manta A, Brian Conway from Derry took home an award for his Opel Kadett C Coupe GTE, Ian Larcy from Midleton was honoured for his Rothmans-liveried Opel Manta 400, and Denis Murphy from Macroom received a special award for his Bedford Chevanne.
Organiser Ted O’Connell thanked all drivers, sponsors including Opel Ireland, Cartell.ie, and Casey Caravan Services, as well as An Garda Síochána, marshals, media, and the staff at Coolcower House for ensuring the event ran seamlessly.
