Irish Rally1 crews set for ultimate high-speed test at Rally Finland
M-Sport Ford World Rally Team’s Irish crews are carrying fast gravel momentum directly into next week’s Rally Finland, round 10 of the World Rally Championship.
The 75th running of the ‘Gravel Grand Prix’ based out of Jyväskylä features a substantially revised and compact route, with two-thirds of the 20 stages new and several classic tests running in reverse.
Following promising pace on the high-speed roads of Estonia, both Jon Armstrong and Josh McErlean are aiming to maximize their experience in the Ford Puma Rally1 cars.
Jon Armstrong, alongside co-driver Shane Byrne, comes into the event following a ninth-place overall finish in Estonia.
“I’m looking forward to the ultimate rally experience with the final year of Rally1 cars,” Armstrong said. “I’ve only done Finland once before, which was 10 years ago, so it will certainly be a tough challenge to be on the limit from the word go. But we will certainly give it our best and build on our positive pace from Estonia.”
Josh McErlean and co-driver Eoin Treacy return to the Finnish forests looking to build on the speed they showed during the opening day in Estonia.
“Finland is always one of the highlights of the season and one of my favourite rallies on the calendar,” McErlean said. “Driving these incredible Rally1 cars over the famous Finnish roads is something every driver dreams of. We’re looking to build on the positives from Estonia and continue making progress throughout the weekend.”
