Stonethrowers Rally postponed because the weather is too good!
The Dussmann Technical Solutions | STS Stonethrowers Rally has been postponed because the summer weather is simply too good.
The Tipperary Light Car and Motorcycle Club confirmed the decision to postpone the event, which was scheduled to take place this Sunday, July 19, out of Clonmel.
Met Éireann has issued a high temperature advisory for the week, with daytime temperatures widely expected to exceed 25 degrees and potentially reaching up to 30 degrees in some areas.
Following detailed consultations between the organising club and Tipperary County Council, officials determined that the prolonged heatwave has left local road surfaces highly vulnerable to damage. Under current agreements, the organising club would be held financially liable for any road surface damage caused by running the heavy rally traffic in such high temperatures.
“Following discussions with Tipperary County Council, it was outlined that the current period of hot weather, together with the forecast for continued high temperatures, has increased the vulnerability of road surfaces to damage,” the Tipperary Light Car and Motorcycle Club said in an official statement.
“Any damage that could be caused to the roads by running the event on Sunday would be borne by us, the organising club. As such, the club has taken the decision to postpone to protect the public road infrastructure and continue our good working relationship with the council.” The club plans to work with Motorsport Ireland and local stakeholders to secure a alternative date to run the event later in the year
