Shinnors complete second global loop with Ecuador Rally class victory

Matt and Catherine Shinnors continued their global rallying campaign last weekend by taking a class victory at the Rally Caminos de Imbabura in Ecuador.

Competing in a Peugeot 206, the husband-and-wife team tackled gravel stages in the northern highlands near Quito. The event presented significant challenges, with altitudes ranging from 2,200 to 3,800 metres above sea level, temperatures hitting 37°C, and mountain roads featuring steep drops with no guard rails.

The result marks a major milestone for the crew. Having first completed all six rallying continents at the Rally del Atlántico in Uruguay in November 2024, their finish in Ecuador means they have now competed on all six continents twice. They achieved this feat without repeating a single rally, completing twelve different events across the globe. One could even argue their 2016 appearance in the Arctic Lapland Rally adds an Arctic continent to their tally, leaving only Antarctica left to conquer.

With two full loops of the rallying world now complete, the Irish crew’s next destination remains to be seen.
