Two Kerry-based motorcycle racers are set to begin their 2024 season this weekend at Bishopscourt, County Down.
Stephen Walsh and Alex O’Grady will compete in the first round of the Ulster Superbike Championship on Saturday.
Due to the ongoing insurance issue, no motorcycle racing events are currently scheduled in the Republic of Ireland, so both riders have chosen to race in Northern Ireland.
Walsh is using the Bishopscourt event as a high-speed test for his main goal: racing on the Isle of Man. He’ll be riding a 500 Honda in the Senior Classic race.
“I’m going with the 500 Honda in the senior classic. The bike has had a lot of work done over the winter so it’s going to be a test day.”
“All focus this year is on the Isle of Man. My entry for the Pre-TT classic races in May has been accepted. I have an entry in for the Manx Grand Prix in August, so hopefully, it will be accepted. Assured Power Generators are running my bikes this year in Lixnaw,” Walsh said.
O’Grady, who had podium finishes in the Supersport Cup Class of the 2024 Masters Championship on his Suzuki GSXR 600, is broadening his horizons this year.

He’ll be competing in the Supersport Cup Class of the Ulster Superbike Championship.
“The plan is to enjoy it and run at the front of the cup,” O’Grady said.
