Kerry drivers competing in the Irish Drift Championship event in Killflynn this weekend

A new form of motorsport is coming to Kerry this weekend.

For the first time ever a round of the Irish Drift Championship will take place in County Kerry.

On Saturday and Sunday, thousands of fans – drifting is the fastest-growing motorsport in Ireland – will descend on the newly opened ‘360 Motorsports Park’ near Kilflynn.

This former Hot Rod Oval has undergone a remarkable transformation in recent, emerging as a modern, high-octane motorsport arena.

“The 360 Motorsports Park offers a thrilling twist to the IDC calendar, with its unique elevation changes and banked corners,” said event promoter Niall Gunn.

Over 100 drives have entered the event.

Among them, 16-year-old Colin O’Sullivan from Kilflynn enters the fray in the junior class.

He follows in the tyre tracks of his father, former rally driver Tommy O’Sullivan and mother Mags who was a rally co-driver, ensuring that motorsport continues to run deep in their family.

Another Kerry native, Kieran McNamara from Miltown, will be competing in the Pro 2 class, aiming to showcase his drifting prowess on the grand stage.

They will be joined by Paul Stryker and Paudie Griffin, both from Knocknagoshel.

The weekend’s action-packed schedule kicks off on Saturday with Pro 2 competitions and practice sessions, setting the stage for an intense showdown.

“The top 10 drivers from Saturday’s qualifiers will advance to the main event on Sunday, promising adrenaline-pumping entertainment for spectators,” added Gunn.

“For those new to the heart-pounding world of drifting, it’s a motorsport that demands exceptional skill and control from drivers. Drifting involves executing precise oversteering maneuvers, guiding the vehicle sideways through corners at high speeds, all while the driver maintains absolute control. It’s a breathtaking display of precision and finesse behind the wheel.”

It’s important to note that tickets must be purchased in advance online at www.360msp.ie  due to limited parking availability.
