Kerry success in Western Australia
Murish O’Connell finished fifth on last weekend’s Experts Cup Rally in Western Australia alongside Abe Tucket in a Mitsubishi Lancer E5.
Here is the story of the rally in his own words
“Thrilled, with our pace and the result.
“The competition at the sharp end is pretty fierce now and there is a lot of depth in the championship so to break into the top five is very satisfying .
“The roads around Wellington Dam are an absolute dream.. a mix of everything you would want from gravel rally stages.
“Flowing and then technical, you need both bravery and precision to keep up the pace.
“Some light drizzle in the morning meant dust was not an issue, from the first stage we had great flow with the car and the notes.
“We managed to keep that rhythm and consistency throughout the day, to stay closer to the outright pace too so it’s great to see the efforts getting rewards now.
Murish added:
O’Connell and Tucket were racing for the Swift Motorsport Team at the weekend. Bossman Ben Searcy won the event and the Western Australia championship.
“Special thanks to Ben Searcy and his Swift Motorsport Team who ensured that we made it to the event and also looked after the car on the day.
“Ben wrapped up the WA Rally Championship Drivers title this weekend, adding to his previous championship as a co-driver.
“He’s only the second Australian ever to win state titles in either seat.
“He’s also won national championships in Australia, New Caledonia and recently Indonesia.”
