The two-motor clubs in Kerry have paid tribute to sports journalist Padraig Harnett who passed away suddenly on Thursday.
The highly respected sports journalist covered a wealth of sports in the county, including soccer, basketball, boxing and cycling.
He was a great supporter of motorsport in the County too and covered many of the local rallies live on Radio Kerry.
He also wrote about local rally crews in Kerry’s Eye and the Tralee Advertiser.
Kerry Motor Club said: “We are very saddened to hear of the sudden passing of.
He was a great supporter of all our events and covered Kerry motorsport in the many media outlets he worked for over the years, particularly live broadcasts on Radio Kerry.
He will be sadly missed, especially this weekend when he would have been hanging out in the service park for the Kerry Winter Rally as he filled his notebooks with news on local crews
Rest in Peace and thank you for all have done for motorsport and other sports that would not have got coverage only for your work.
Killarney and District Motor Club said: “We are shocked and saddened at the death of Padraig Harnett RIP
“Padraig, a well-known sports journalist in Kerry and beyond, was a huge supporter of our events and covered our rallies for both print and radio over the years.
“The club extends its sympathies to Padraig’s wife Maura and all his friends and family at this difficult time.”
