Motorcycle Road Racing to return to Athea in 2023.

A statement issued to Kerry Motorsport News by the newly formed Southwest Motorcycle Road Race club said:

“It is with great pleasure that the newly formed SouthWest Motorcycle Road Race club wishes to announce motorcycle road races will re-commence again in Athea, Co. Limerick on the Saturday and Sunday of the August Bank Holiday weekend, dates Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th August, 2023.

The main club has been formed by a group of Motorcycle Road Race supporters based around Athea, Abbeyfeale and Listowel. These club members participate in Road Racing and other members participate as Road Race marshals at race events.

Sean Bissett, President of Motorcycle Union of Ireland (Southern Centre) has confirmed the above dates. The club have met with Limerick City and County Council engineers. The meeting was held in Athea with Club President Mike Dalton. The council confirmed that the road would be in good condition for the event. Final inspection of the roads will be carried out by Sean Bissett and his team in conjunction with Limerick County Council engineers.

The club would like to thank the communities of Athea and its surrounding areas for all their help, goodwill and support in hosting this spectacular event. The SouthWest Motorcycle Road Race club is most grateful.
