New Zealand Rally Championship – points in the bag for Moloney

Noel Moloney’s journey 17th overall, and fourth in the Allcomers Category on last weekend’s opening round of the New Zealand Rally Championship was not without incident.

The Duagh co-driver was contesting Rally Otago, one of the iconic events in the New Zealand Rally Championship, with new driver Dave Sievers. The Subaru Impreza driver was tackling his fifth event ever.

On day one the crew suffered a broken bottom arm over stages two and three. They were able to partially fix the car at the service halt but it was still out of wheel alignment so thay had to suffer on until the next service.

Once their car was sorted they set some impressive times and finished day one second in Category 5 (Allcomers).

“We were pretty stoked with that, taking away a good haul of points for the first round of championship,” he said.

“The second day was good, no problems over some classic stages which me and Dave really enjoyed. We came away with 17th overall too.”

Their next event is the International Rally of Whangarei on May 13 to 15.
