Kerry motorcycle racers to 2021 collect awards on Saturday night

Kerry motorcycle races will receive their 2021 Dunlop Masters Irish Superbike championship trophies at a special function at Mondello Park on Saturday night.

The Irish racing season officially gets underway this weekend when championship organisers stage a two-day pre-season test at the County Kildare venue.

The test session will double as the prizegiving night for last year’s championship. An awards night was scheduled for last November, but it had to be cancelled due to rising COVID-19 cases in the country at the time.

Local riders in line for awards this Saturday night include Darragh Crean who won the Production Twins class title and Evan O’Grady who won the Superbike Cup championship.

Runner up trophies will be presented to Andrew Murphy who was second in the Supersport Pro class and Dean O’Grady who was second in the Superbike Cup championship.

This weekend’s test session will also mark the first time that many new for 2022 racing bikes will be ridden on Irish soil.  Crean, for example, has a new Aprilia as he steps up the SuperTwins class for the year ahead.

Former Supersport Cup frontrunner Rob O’Connell has bought Crean’s Production Twin Suzuki while Murphy is expected to race in Moto 400GP.
