Noel Moloney and his driver Troy Smith won their class on last weekend’s Targa Bambina Rally based near Hamilton, New Zealand.
Smith is a former co-driving champion in New Zealand but this is was his first event as a driver.
This is a two day event had a mixture of well-known roads from previous Targa Rotorua events as well as a number of new roads that have not been used in this configuration before and included a total of 260kms of special stages.
It was the first Targa tarmac rally to be held in the country in almost a year.

The Volkswagen Golf crew were leading the class and lying 15th overall after day-one.
They started day as the class pace setters in what is the Duagh native’s home rally in New Zealand.
However disaster struck and they dropped to third place.

“We had a but got it changed quickly to put us back in the race,” explained Moloney. “The last three stages we were on full attack to regain. My driver deserves big credit for his first rally. I want to give him a big shout he did an awesome job on his first rally.”
