Father and son team Maurice and Dean McElligott could be about to set a Kerry Motor Club record of sorts.
They are competing in the Loftus Haulage Sprint at Watergrasshill Raceway in Cork on Sunday in their shared Nissan Micra 1.0.
With Kerry Motor Club due to mark its 50th anniversary on Monday, the father and son crew will be the last two members of the club to compete during its first half-century.

“We are really looking forward to our first outing this year and can’t wait to brush off the cobwebs,” said Maurice. “It’s a kind of special occasion too as we will be the last two Kerry Motor Club members to compete this side of the half-century.”
There is an old score to settle too. Last time out, last summer, both Maurice and Dean finished second in their class (Maurice was in an adult class and 16-yeard-old Dean was competing in the junior class) just 1.6 seconds separated them at the end of the day.

“Dean said he will have the sleeves up this time and is going all out to beat me,” added Maurice.
