For years it was often joked that the Monday after the Kerry Winter Rally was a Kerry Motor Club Bank holiday.
Well the long-standing joke will become a reality next season after the Monday after the popular end of season will be the October Bank Holiday.
As a result of the new calendar directives by Motorsport Ireland, some rallies have been asked to run every second year.
Kerry Motor Club cannot run the Circuit of Kerry next year – instead the Tralee based club will have to wait until 2023 before the rally can run again.
A similar situation faces Skibbereen and District Car Club. Their Fastnet Rally cannot run until 2023 either so the event’s traditional October Bank Holiday weekend became available and Kerry Motor Club successfully applied to the governing body to move the rally from its mid-November date to the October Holiday.

“This is a good move for the club,” said chairman PJ O’Dowd “We will have better day light hours to run the event at that time rather than our later date in November. It also means that that people will not have to take an extra day off work for the event.”
So there it is, the Banna Bank Holiday, is now official.!
