Kerry Motorsport News can exclusively reveal that Killarney and District Motor Club will run a Forestry Rally in early 2022.
The final 2022 rally calendar has yet to be ratified by Motorsport Ireland. That will happen at Tuesday night’s Rallies Commission meeting and it is fully understood that the club behind the Rally of the Lakes and the Killarney Historic Rally will get the green light to run an event in February- or, otherwise, very early in the season.
Official confirmation is expected by Thursday this week.
The club last ran a forest event in 2007 when it formed rounds of both the Irish and British gravel rally championships.
That event, which ran from 2002, took place in the Mount Eagle complex on the Kerry, Cork and Limerick border and the new for 2022 event will take place on the same roads. It will be based in Castleisland.
Mount Eagle is traditionally Kerry Motor Club territory but the Tralee-based club ‘loaned’ it to Limerick Motor Club in recent years. A similar arrangement was put in place between the two Kerry clubs in 2002 that allowed the previous KDMC forest rally to run until 2007.
More details later in the week once Kerry Motorsport News has official confirmation.
