Mark Murphy and Shane Buckley are the Kingdom of Kerry Rally Series champions for 2021.
After the two counting rounds, the Banna Beach Resort Kerry Winter Rally and the Rentokil Initial Killarney Historic Rally, the results are in for the class-based series.
Murphy made a return to the sport this season after a five-year absence in a newly built Toyota Starlet.
A class win in Kerry and a strong run in Killarney were the keys to his series success.
As Murphy’s co-driver is from County Clare, Shane Buckley wins the co-driver section.
His cousin Aidan is second in the driver’s category – a class win in Killarney secured the runner’s up spot. He actually tied with Murphy on overall scores but the series was decided on a tie-break rule. Mark won his class first!

Ray O’Neill is third in his Ford Escort. As Ray’s co-driver is from Cork two other local co-drivers move into podium places.
Denny Greany takes silver while Ger Conway takes third.
Alan Ring and Paul Nagle are the winners of the Historic section.
There was no Junior section in 2021.
Decisions will be made in the next week regarding the awards night. It is scheduled for December 30 at the Anvil Bar in Keel but current health guidelines will most likely force its deferral.
