Megan Costello is preparing for her first closed road rally since a horrific accident over three years ago.
She is set to contest Saturday’s Rentokil Initial Killarney Historic Rally alongside Ray Hilliard in a Ford Escort Mk1
Megan is a member of the popular rally family from Tarbert.
Father Jason and daughter Megan were badly injured in a crash on the Circuit of Munster in June 2018. Their Ford Escort Mk2 went on fire as a result of the accident and they both suffered serious burns in the aftermath.
Megan has only contested one event since the accident – a single venue Rallysport Association event in August this year alongside her brother Mossie.
Rallysport Association events are run on airfields and similar venues and do not require Pacenotes or recce.
Weeks before the accident, Megan competed on the Rally of the Lakes with the London-based Hilliard.
“I am making a return. It is about time, it has been a long three and a half years but glad to be back on an entry list and getting back out,” she told Kerry Motorsport News.
“I am absolutely delighted to have Killarney as my first rally back might. I might as well jump into the deep end again!
“Of course there are nerves, it is plain to God they would be there after everything that happened.
“At least I know and trust Ray, I’ve sat with him before in Killarney so should be a good day out!”
