Two Kerry drivers to lead out Cannonball4x4 Overland run through South Kerry

Two Kerry drivers who are taking part in this weekend’s Cannonball 4X4 Overland event will have the honour of leading the convoy through South Kerry tomorrow.

Donal O’Sullivan , from Killcummin and Henry  Bartlett from Farranfore, are both driving Ford Raptors in the three-day event that started Friday in County Wicklow.

Both drivers are taking part in such an event for the first time.

“We have had a great welcome everywhere we went,” Donal told Kerry Motorsport News on arrival at the Great Southern Hotel in Killarney on Friday evening.

The convoy will depart the Great Southern at 10 am on Saturday and follow back roads, via BeallachOisin Pass to Waterville.

The two Kerry men have been chosen to lead out the convoy.

After a stop at Derrynane House the crews are expected at Dromquinna Manor around 12.35.

Departing the hotel at 2pm, the convoy will head towards the Blackwater Bridge for a crack at the challenging Ballaghbeama Gap.

At around 15:30pm the crews will arrive at the famous Kate Kearney’s Cottage before driving the Gap of Dunloe.

“Believe it or not,” said Henry, “This will be my first time driving the Gap of Dunloe.

The cars are expected on the final challenge, Moll’s Gap around 430pm before arriving back in the Great Southern Hotel around 5pm. After dinner in the hotel, the crews will socialise in Reidy’s on Main St that night.
