Mark Kane’s generosity helps junior drivers in Banna

Mark Kane’s generosity helps junior drivers

Philip Allen has employed the services of Tralee’s Mark Kane to guide him around the County Down countryside on Saturday’s Ulster Rally.

But before he returns to the co-driver’s seat Kane set a great example two weekends ago.

He had an unlucky run on the recent Kerry Winter Rally. Mark and his co-driver Pat Cashman from Rathmore did not complete the shakedown stage on the eve of the event after their Subaru Impreza broke its timing belt. They worked late into the night in an effort to fix it, but to no avail.

Despite his bad luck, Kane put his hands in his pockets on Sunday morning, to sponsor prize money for the junior drivers in the event.

Junior event winner Kyle McBride went back to Donegal with €400 in his pocket, second placed, Abbeyfeale’s John Michael Kennelly won €200 and Cork man Robbie O’Hanlon netted €100 for third place and all thanks to the generosity of Kane who only decided on the morning of the rally to create the fund.
