Final race weekend of year for Fassbender
The European Le Mans Series is on the home straight.
The season finale of the hard-fought championship will be held on Sunday at the Autódromo Internacional de Algarve -Portimao.
It will mark Michael Fassbender’s final race of the year for the Proton Competition team.
Three drivers will take to the wheel of the number 93 the team’s Porsche 911 RSR.
Richard Lietz, Felipe Fernandez Laser and Fassbender. The team are still chasing a podium finish and came very close last time out in Belgium.
“The race in Portimao marks the end of my second season with Proton Competition and Porsche in the European Le Mans Series. Even if it wasn’t enough for our first podium, I was able to gain a lot of important experience this season. Working with the team was very inspiring and a lot of fun.”
The crucial thing here for Fassbender are his ambitions to contest the Le Mans 24 Hours at some point in the future.
There are two automatic invitations to the 2022 24 Hours of Le Mans on offer for the top two teams in the championship standings at the end of the 4 Hours of Portimão.
The no80 Iron Lynx Ferrari of Miguel Molina, Rino Mastronardi and Matteo Cressoni are leading by 20 points after securing podium finishes, including two wins, in each of the five races.
The no88 AF Corse Ferrari of Francois Perrodo, Alessio Rovera and Emmanuel Collard are on 81 points in the Vice Champions position, with the no55 Spirit of Race Ferrari of Cork man Matt Griffin, David Perel and Duncan Cameron on 77 points in third spot. Fassbenders’ 93 car is along way off in seventh place and on 43 points.
