Currow man John McCarthy has finished second in class six in the Northern Ireland Rally Championship.
Ahead of Saturday’s final round, McCarthy was in joint second place with Justin McCauley and four points behind Heather Kenndey for the class lead.
McCarthy contested the entire four-round McGrady Insurances Northern Ireland Rally Championship alongside John Devlin.
Kennedy did not start today’s Tour of the Sperrins, the final round of the series and McCauley finished second in class, compared to McCarthy’s fifth place.

McCarthy has done enough to overhaul Kennedy but not enough to gain more points that McCauley. By that reckoning we put the Dublin-based co-driver in second place by just two points.
“We probably should have won the class on Saturday if were not stuck down a boreen for over a minute,” said McCarthy who had a busy weekend. He also contested Sunday’s Wexford Rally alongside Peter Wilson. It was both crew members first outing in a Rally 2 car and thy brought their Ford Fiesta home in 17th place.
The final round of the series, the Tyrone Stages, which was due to take place on November 6 has been cancelled.
