The Wilson Craig Honda Team along with riders Emmet O’Grady and Joey Thompson got their first taste of British Championship racing on Friday when they took part in Free Practice 1 and 2 in the Quattro Group British Supersport/British GP2 Championship round at Brands Hatch in Kent.
Free practice one was curtailed after one lap due to an incident on a wet Brands Circuit which stayed wet for the duration of FP1, with Emmet O’Grady slotting into 19th place and Joey Thompson in 21st place.
Free practice 2 on Friday afternoon was held in dry conditions with both riders putting in solid lap times and more importantly, a lot of track time.

O’Grady slotted into 26th place on combined FP times with a best lap of 1:34.276s (92.91mph) while Thompson took 27th with a best lap of 1:35.113s (92.09mph).
Team principal Darren Gilpin was happy with how day one went: “Free practice one was really a non-runner for us and we didn’t see the point in ruining a set of wet tyres in FP.
“Free practice 2 was dry and the boys got plenty of track time and laps. We will just take it easy, and our goal is to finish the races. We are here to enjoy ourselves and experience what is arguably the finest domestic Championships in the world”.
On Saturday both O’Grady and Thompson head into the qualifying session in the morning with a 12 lap sprint race to be held in the afternoon.
