Kerry involvement in this weekend’s World Super Bikes from Portimao
Is there any aspect of motorsport, anywhere in the world, that doesn’t have Kerry influence?
And its not just the competitive side of the sport – a driver or a rider cannot get results without a dedicated engineer or mechanic at their side.
So far this year, Kerry Motorsport News has reported an F1 Grand Prix engineer, a NASCAR aero specialist and a engineer winning races in the FIA World Rally Cross Championship. All of them have Kerry roots and many of them grew up in the county.
This weekend the county will have representation at the World Superbike Championship round in Portugal.
The final European meeting of the year takes place at the Autodromo de Algarve or Portimao as its better known.
Cork-based Team 109 is racing in the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship support category with their latest signing, Spainard Daniel Mogeda.
On his debut outing with the team, in France, last month his #88 machine caught the attention of many onlookers after finishing fifth in one of his races.
Team 109’s Kawasaki Supersport 300 is fine-tuned in Tralee by JOG Tuning, and the man behind the tuning firm, John O’Grady is heading to Portugal to oversee the operation first-hand this weekend.
“It is my project too and I have the time put into it,” he told Kerry Motorsport News. “I want to be there to see it. I usually try to go to two or three[WSB meetings] a year but it depends on work and home.”
