Fassbender just misses out on Spa podium
Michael Fassbender missed out a first podium finish in the European Le Mans series by a few short metres on Sunday.
The Proton Competition Porsche that he shares with Richard Lietz (Austria) and Felipe Fernandez Laser (Germany) were in third place as the 4 Hours of Spa neared its conclusion on Sunday afternoon.
However a full-course yellow flag, with 6 minutes left on the clock after the no5 MV2S Racing Ligier went off into the barriers at Raidillon.
This allowed the no83 Ferrari to close the gap to the third placed no93 Porsche.
At the restart Rahel Frey judged her move perfectly and swept past Felipe Laser, who was driving Fassbender’s car at the time,to take the final podium position.
“That was a very exciting and hard-fought race. The team tailored our Porsche 911 RSR perfectly to this difficult track. We were very close to our first podium. Unfortunately, a few meters were missing in the end,” said Fassbender at the finish.
The final round of the 2021 European Le Mans series takes place in Portugal on October 24.
