One of Kerry’s top motorcycle racers has backed plans to build an off-road motorsport complex in North Kerry.
Last week, Kerry Motorsport News revealed plans that the current owners of the former Hot Rod oval and adjoining wind farm near Kilflynn are investigating the creation of such a complex.

Motorsport promoter and windfarm business partner Niall Gunn invited several local motorcycle races – both off road and short circuit racers – to a pilot event last Sunday.
Darragh Crean, the current leader of the Production Twins class in the Dunlop Irish Masters Superbike Championship was one of the many locals to attend last week’s toe-in-the-water exercise.

“Not all people are into football or hurling, motorsports in Kerry needs this and the council and people of Kerry need to support it,” he told Kerry Motorsport News.
“The new facilities are fantastic, it’s a fantastic way to keep bike-fit and most importantly in a controlled safe environment.
“It is so important for the future generation that Kilflynn stays open. In our day we used to go to mountains and beaches where we were constantly cleared from, or travel to the likes of Limerick or Cork, now finally people have a place to go with their motocross bikes.”
