Leading Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing development driver, Jari Huttunen with co-driver Mikko Lukka will join Team MRF Tyres for the fourth round of the 2021 FIA European Rally Championship, the 50th Barum Czech Rally Zlin.
Team MRF Tyres has undertaken an aggressive development campaign since entering the FIA ERC in 2020 together with Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing. The 2021 season sees this strategy continue and evolve.
To achieve this goal, MRF Tyres is working with Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing and to tap into their renowned expertise. Their driver and car development programs are well known and produces leading drivers to enhance their equipment.
As a result, Jari Huttunen will step into the Team MRF Tyres Hyundai i20 R5 for the Barum Czech Rally Zlin. Huttunen is coming off the winning debut of the new Hyundai i20 N Rally2 at the FIA World Rally Championship’s Renties Ypres Rally Belgium.
The development process and exceptional results achieved by Team MRF Tyres became possible with the help of Craig Breen and Paul Nagle who have competed for the team to date.
Their ongoing development work and skill behind the wheel allowed Team MRF Tyres to score eight stage wins in the ERC along with the podium at Rally Liepaja earlier this year.
Their work has allowed the team to change gears in their development work. Huttunen’s proven experience in developing the new Hyundai i20 N Rally2, and after competing on the Belgian tarmac, will allow Team MRF Tyres to expand the data and development program in Zlin.
Huttunen is no stranger to rallying success, taking the WRC3 Championship and the Polish Rally Championship in 2020. Additionally, he won the WRC2 class in the Rally Italia Sardegna and Ypres Rally Belgium for Hyundai Motorsport N.
Team MRF Tyres has utilised the driving skills of Breen/Nagle, as well as Italian aces Paolo Andreucci and Simone Campedelli; and Finn Emil Lindholm in competition and testing in 2020 and 2021.
Team MRF Tyres would like to thank Breen and Nagle for their dedication and work resulting in good learnings for the team.
The 50th Barum Czech Rally Zlin will take place from 27-29 August and sees 15 stages and 210km of competitive action on tarmac.
