No rest for Coyne – straight into round two of the British National Superstock championship this weekend

Farranfore motorcycle racer Kevin Coyne’s second season in the British Super Bike championship is proving to be a hectic affair.

Coyne, who is graduating from the British Junior Championship to the National Superstock 600cc class, made his 2021 debut at last weekend’s double-header at Oulton.

He will race this weekend at Donington Park where he will share paddock space with World Super Bike regulars.

During his first race at Oulton on Saturday, he went from 37th on the grid to finish 27th, remaining on target for top 20 finishes before the end of the season.

In race two, on Sunday, he finished 32nd,

“With Kevin’s first ever outing on the new Kawasaki 636  we were very nervous about our realistic chances in this championship,” said his father Mark.

“We set up on Thursday and after the track walk around Oulton park we now realised how difficult this was going to be. Oulton is a fast and flowing track with undulations and lots of areas for it all to go wrong.

“All credit to Kevin. He kept his head and with only 40 riders qualifying he managed to qualify 37th. That meant we were in for the two races and our main objective for the weekend was to do laps and learn the bike.”

The Coynes are enjoying a few days off before they set up at Donington on Thursday morning.

“And we now relax for three days before we set up for the WSBK round this weekend where there will be three races to contest and gain ever valuable race experience,” added Mark, “We as a team would really like to thank everyone who has contributed to helping make this dream a reality.”
