Fire ends Buckley’s Argyll Rally effort

Kerry co-driver Shane Buckley had a lucky escape during Saturday’s Argyll Rally in Scotland.

He and his driver, fellow London Irish Motor Club member, Anthony O’Brien, were contesting the first rally to run in Scotland after COVID-19 restrictions were lifted, when their Mitsubishi Lancer E10 caught fire.

A problem with the cars exhaust meant the rear bumper apron caught fire and it very quickly escalated into a big fire.

Both O’Brien and Buckley were unharmed in the incident but luckily the car was not very badly  damaged. The incident took place on the seventh of 13 stages.

The crew were able to being the fire extinguishing process with their own on-board extinguishers but also had to rely on the help of following crews too.
