GIRLS PLAY TOO
Samantha Martin is preparing for her first full season on board her Suzuki SV650 in the Production Twin Class.
Encouraged by her late father Pat and her partner, fellow racer Andrew Murphy, she made her race debut in March 2019. Since then, has concentrated on track days to get up to speed. She is now ready for a full season of Dunlop Masters action and possible outings in Northern Ireland.
“I was always at the wrong side of the pit wall,” says the Tarbert-based racer, “I tried football and other boring sports, but I always wanted to do something that was not that popular – a lesser-known sport – in Kerry.”
Martin is aiming to be a qualified paramedic and hopes to one day to add her two passions together and become a motorcycle paramedic and even a travelling marshal at road races.
She is not the only Kerry woman with a racing licence.
Killarney’s Siobhan Ardener is set for another season in sidecar racing. She will mind the third wheel for Dubliner Fergus Woodlock on his Kawasaki ZXR.
