The New Zealand rally season resumes this weekend after its summer break with South Auckland’s Car Club’s James Allen Memorial Rallysprint scheduled for Sunday.

The event is based in the Maramarua Forest area and will feature two gravel loops of approximately 8km each.

Duagh co-driver Noel Moloney and his regular driver Quentin Palmer are using the event as a pre-season shakedown.

The pair are contesting this year’s New Zealand National Rally Championship in their Mitsubishi Lancer E5.

The first round of the five-round series, the DriveSouth Rally of Otago is scheduled for April 16 to 18.

“The car is fully refreshed so the rallysprint is this Sunday is a shakedown,” Noel told Kerry Motorsport News.

The Irish/New Zealand crew will contest the Category 5 section of the New Zealand Rally Championship.

“Category  5 is not the main category, it is an entrance category for the older cars and a good start of category to for new entrants to the championship,” explained Noel.

The other four rounds of the New Zealand National Rally Championship are the International Rally of Whangarie on May 14-16, the South Canterbury Rally on June 19, Rally Hawkes Bay on July 24 and Rally Coromandel on September 4.
