Craig Breen will contest this weekend’s Italian Rally Championship counter, the 44th Rally Il Ciocco and Valle del Serchio, which gets underway on Friday.
The two-day rally will begin with a super-special on the streets of Il Ciocco at around 3pm Irish time tomorrow.
Tomorrow’s loop of nine stages (three by three format) runs from 7am to 5.30pm Irish time takes place on roads in the Tuscany region of Italy and is based in the Renaissance Tuscany Il Ciocco Resort about 100kms west of Bologna and north of Florence.
Breen is part of a two-car Hyundai Motorsport team contesting the rally. He will be joined on the vent by WRC teammate Thierry Neuville and they will both drive the new Hyundai i30 similar to the car Oliver Solberg drove on the Monte Carlo Rally at the start of the year.
Both drivers have a successful history with the car. Neuville took overall victory in an i20 R5 at the Ypres Rally in 2018, while Breen clinched the victory during the busy Rally di Alba weekend last year.
The Irish driver, fourth on the recent Artic Rally Finland, previously contested the Rally Il Ciocco and Valle del Serchio, back in 2019, as part of his well-documented European tour that season.
On that occasion he finished fourth overall at the wheel of a Skoda Fabia R5.
“The paved stages are beautiful and the Renaissance Tuscany Il Ciocco Resort, around which the event is taking place, is a wonderful place,” he said, ”I can’t wait to get back there. We’ll be racing a Hyundai i20 R2 and I’m really happy to get back in the car and get some competitive mileage on asphalt, especially on such beautiful roads. I also hope to bring home a good result!”
