Coyne unveils 2021 plans

Farranfore motorcycle racer Kevin Coyne outlined plans for the season ahead at a quieter than usual season launch at Ross Castle last week.

Coyne, as revealed in The Kerryman last month, has confirmed he will race in the Pirelli National Superstock 600 Championship which runs alongside the British Super Bike Championship.

His first event in the UK will be in Oulton Park in Cheshire on May 30 and 31 but he is hopeful of some Irish outings before that date.

“I cannot wait to get going now, our pre-season plans had to be changed because of the restrictions, so I will have to wait a little longer to really feel the power of the new bike, compared to what I raced in Junior Supersport last year, but I am excited. I’m just counting down the days until we get testing underway; we have put together a strong bike and with some really great partners helping me, I am looking forward to the new challenge,” he said.

The Irish Dunlop Masters is due to get underway in late April at Mondello Park and COVID-19 restrictions pending Coyne hopes to be able to race that weekend.

Already some of his pre-season plans have been disrupted because of travel restrictions and a planned early March test in Spain has been cancelled.

“The plan is of Mondello gets the greenlight, whether that is for races or test days, Kevin will be there,” his father Mark said. “It is super important for him to get up to speed before we send him back to England. He did himself proud last season [in the British Junior Supersport championship] and this is the next natural step for him.”
